Two-proton correlation function: a gentle introduction

The recent COSY-11 collaboration measurement of the two-proton correlation function in the pp -> ppeta reaction, reported at this meeting [1], arouse some interest in a simple theoretical description of the correlation function. In these notes we present a pedagogical introduction to the practical methods that can be used for calculating the correlation function.Comment: Prepared for the proceedings of the Symposium on Meson Physics at COSY-11 and WASA-at-COSY, Krakow, Poland, 17-22 June 200

Leptonic decays of the eta meson with the WASA detector at CELSIUS

Decay channels of the eta meson with at least one lepton pair in the final state are discussed. Preliminary results on electron-positron pair production from the pd->He eta reaction from the WASA experiment at CELSIUS are presented.Comment: 8 pages, 7 figures, prepared for Symposium on Meson Physics at COSY-11 and WASA-at-COSY, Cracow, 17-22 June 200

Model-independent approach to eta -> pi+ pi- gamma and eta' -> pi+ pi- gamma

We present a new, model-independent method to analyze radiative decays of mesons to a vector, isovector pair of pions of invariant mass square below the first significant pion-pion threshold in the vector channel. It is based on a combination of chiral perturbation theory and dispersion theory. This allows for a controlled inclusion of resonance physics without the necessity to involve vector meson dominance explicitly. As an example, the method is applied to an analysis of the reactions eta -> pi+ pi- gamma and eta'->pi+ pi- gamma.Comment: 16 pages, 4 figure

Experimental proton-proton correlation function derived for the pp -> ppeta reaction

Based on the high statistics data from the pp -> ppX reaction measured by the COSY-11 collaboration [1] we have derived a two-proton correlation function for the production of the ppeta and pp+pions systems. The measured correlation function normalized to the value simulated for a point-like source was compared with a theoretical prediction in order to estimate the size of the reaction volume.Comment: Talk given at the Symposium on Meson Physics at COSY-11 and WASA-at-COSY Krakow, Poland, 17-22 June 200

MesonNet Workshop on Meson Transition Form Factors

The mini-proceedings of the Workshop on Meson Transition Form Factors held in Cracow from May 29th to 30th, 2012 introduce the meson transition form factor project with special emphasis on the interrelations between the various form factors (on-shell, single off-shell, double off-shell). Short summaries of the talks presented at the workshop follow.Comment: 69 pages, 14 figures; all talks can be found at https://sites.google.com/site/mesonnetwork/home/activities/form-factor-workshop-2012; v2: workshop link updated (as the page had to be moved to a commercial server), table 6 correcte

    Dispersive analysis for ηγγ\eta\to \gamma\gamma^*

    Get PDF
A dispersion integral is derived that connects data on ηπ+πγ\eta\to \pi^+\pi^-\gamma to the ηγγ\eta\to \gamma\gamma^* transition form factor. A detailed analysis of the uncertainties is provided. We find for the slope of the η\eta transition form factor at the origin bη=(2.050.10+0.22)GeV2b_\eta = (2.05 {}^{+0.22}_{-0.10})\, {\rm GeV}^{-2}. Using an additional, plausible assumption, one finds for the corresponding slope of the η\eta' transition form factor, bη=(1.580.08+0.15)GeV2b_{\eta'} = (1.58 {}^{+0.15}_{-0.08})\, {\rm GeV}^{-2}. Both values are consistent with all recent data, but differ from some previous theoretical analyses.Comment: 11 pages, 3 figures, 2 tables (with extended discussion of the isoscalar contribution to the transition form factor

Constraining the Hadronic Contributions to the Muon Anomalous Magnetic Moment

The mini-proceedings of the Workshop on "Constraining the hadronic contributions to the muon anomalous magnetic moment" which included the "13th meeting of the Radio MonteCarLow WG" and the "Satellite meeting R-Measurements at BES-III" held in Trento from April 10th to 12th, 2013, are presented. This collaboration meeting aims to bring together the experimental e+e- collider communities from BaBar, Belle, BESIII, CMD2, KLOE, and SND, with theorists working in the fields of meson transitions form factors, hadronic contributions to (g-2)_\mu and effective fine structure constant, and development of Monte Carlo generator and Radiative Corrections for precision e+e- and tau physics.Comment: 45 pages, 17 contributions. Higher Partial Waves in p+p->p+p+eta near Threshold

Exclusive measurements of the production of eta mesons in the p+p->p+p+eta reaction have been carried out at excess energies of 16 and 37 MeV above threshold. The deviations from phase space are dominated by the proton-proton final state interaction and this influences particularly the energy distribution of the eta meson. However, evidence is also presented at the higher energy for the existence of an anisotropy in the angular distributions of the eta meson and also of the final proton-proton pair, probably to be associated with D-waves in this system interfering with the dominant S-wave term. The sign of the eta angular anisotropy suggests that rho-exchange is important for this reaction.Comment: 16 pages, LaTeX2e, 3 EPS Figures, Updated version, Accepted for publication in Phys. Lett.

Tests of the fundamental symmetries in eta meson decays

Patterns of chiral symmetry violation and tests of the conservation of the fundamental C, P and CP symmetries are key physics issues in studies of the pi0, eta and eta' meson decays. These tests include searches for rare or forbidden decays and searches for asymmetries among the decay products in the not-so-rare decays. Some examples for the rare decays are eta-->2pi, eta-->4pi0 (CP tests), decays into an odd number of photons (e.g., eta-->3g) and the decay eta-->pi0e+e- (C tests). The experimental studies of the pi0, eta and eta' meson decays are carried out at four European accelerator research facilities: KLOE/KLOE-2 at DAFNE (Frascati), Crystal Ball at MAMI (Mainz), WASA at COSY (J\"ulich), Crystal Barrel at ELSA (Bonn).Comment: 9 pages, 2 figures, proceedings of Symposium on Prospects in the Physics of Discrete Symmetries, DISCRETE 2010, 6 - 11 December, Rome; v2: added reference
